Smathers sentenced to prison term
Juneau Superior Court Judge Patricia Collins today (Tuesday) ordered 20 year-old Stephanie Smathers to serve three years in prison.
Smathers was a passenger in a van involved in a collision that killed 25-year-old Jody Watson on Brotherhood Bridge in August 2005.
Smathers was allegedly involved in a fight with the driver, David Alex, when he lost control of the van and collided with Watson's car.
She pleaded to criminally negligent homicide as a part of a plea agreement.
Smathers was also convicted of felony theft last January.
Collins sentenced Samthers to six years, but suspended three years of the combined sentence and ordered her to serve ten years probation after she's release from prison.
