Brotherhood Bridge fatal accident case from last year goes to DA
Juneau Police say they have completed their investigation into the fatal traffic accident on Brotherhood Bridge last August 31.

Killed in the accident was 25 year old Jody Watson, a college student at the University of Alaska Southeast.

She was driving a 1997 Dodge Neon when her vehicle was hit by a 1993 Plymouth Van operated by a 22 year old man. Also in the van was an 18 old woman.

The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for review. The department says until a final determination has been made by the DA's office the case will remain open.

Lieutenant Jerry Nankervis says they feel it would be better if the release is made by the district attorney's office since this is an incident where no arrests have been made.

So the DA's office will decide if any charges are pressed. When asked if the police department has made a recommendation, the Lieutenant says it has, but its not being disclosed at this time.

The police investigation determined that the driver of the van had his attention diverted from the roadway and veered into the oncoming lane of Glacier Highway colliding with Watson's car.

Reports at the time indicated there was a struggle going on between the man and woman.

Their identities have never been released.
